Including medical footage and emotional content in organ donation educational videos for Latinx viewers.
The purpose of this 2 x 3 randomized controlled trial was to evaluate whether different types of videos shown in Latinx-owned barbershops and beauty salons affected deceased organ donor registration. Videos included medical footage of organ preservation and transplantation, as well as sad, uplifting, or unresolved stories. Impact was measured as it related to the impact of medical footage and storylines on three variables: registry enrollment, donation willingness and stage of change, and emotions. The study found that 14.8% of participants registered for deceased organ donation. Medical footage, sad, and unresolved stories did not differentially affect registration or willingness to donate organs. Compared to the uplifting story, the sad and unresolved stories increased sadness and decreased positive affect. The educational videos which included or excluded medical footage of organ preservation and transplantation and varying emotional levels of stories did not differentially affect registration. The researchers concluded that future work is necessary to analyze qualitative data that was collected with a subset of participants in order to report the qualitative reasons for participants' registration decisions.

Designing a liver transplant patient and family decision support tool for organ offer decisions.
For liver transplant candidates on the waiting list, deciding to accept a donor organ with known or potential risk factors can be stressful and can lead to declined offers. Current education for patients and family often takes place during transplant evaluations and can be overwhelming and result in low retention and poor understanding of donor quality. In this study, the investigators sought to understand provider experiences when counseling patients about donor risks and donor offers.

The role of media in non-directed (altruistic) living kidney donation.
This study sought to characterize how non-directed living kidney donors use media and informational resources over the course of their kidney donation journey. The investigators conducted semi-structured interviews with non-directed donors (NDDs) who initiated kidney transplant chains. The investigators concluded that media and informational resources play an important role in the process of donation for NDDs, including inspiring interest in donation through personal narratives.

Use of Twitter in communicating living solid organ donation information to the public: an exploratory study of living donors and transplant professionals.
As transplant centers start leveraging Twitter for information dissemination and public engagement, it is important to understand current living solid organ donation-related Twitter use. This paper investigated use of Twitter in communicating living solid organ donation information to the public. It provides insight into how the social media platform may be used to communicate about and disseminate information about living donation.

What patients and members of their support networks ask about transplant program data.
This study used qualitative document research methods to review 678 detailed Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) entries and summary counts of 55 362 United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) entries to provide a better understanding of what was asked and what requests were most common. Patients sought a wide range of information about outcomes, waiting times, program volumes, and willingness to perform transplants in candidates with specific diseases or demographics.

Communicating About Choices in Transplantation (COACH).
This article presents pilot results of the behavioral communication intervention program, Communicating about Choices in Transplantation (COACH), designed to improve transplant candidates' communication about transplantation. The authors indicate that results provided preliminary support for the program's impact. Moreover, participant evaluations of the COACH were overwhelmingly positive. They noted that a more definitive program evaluation with a larger, more diverse sample is currently underway.

Organ donation video messaging in motor vehicle offices: results of a randomized trial.
Since nearly all registered organ donors in the United States signed up via a driver's license transaction, motor vehicle (MV) offices represent an important venue for organ donation education. The researchers evaluated the impact of organ donation video messaging in MV offices. There was a relatively low uptake of the video intervention by customers that most likely contributed to the negative trial finding.

It's up to you: a multi-message, phased driver facility campaign to increase organ donation registration rates in Illinois.
This project applied successful strategies previously employed in driver facility campaigns to examine whether these strategies would be effective in growing a registry where the majority of individuals have already had the opportunity to register as an organ donor. In facilities with historically high and low registration percentages, these strategies resulted in higher organ donor registration rates, compared with control facilities.
