Taking Care of Yourself and Your Risk for Breast Cancer (CUIDARSE): a randomized controlled trial of a health communication intervention for Latinas.
Latinas in the United States are more likely to be diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer (BC) compared to non-Latinas. Literacy-appropriate and culturally sensitive cancer communication interventions can help address existing racial/ethnic BC disparities. In this study, the investigators formatively developed a new BC prevention brochure for Spanish-speaking Latinas (≥35 years) and conducted a randomized controlled trial of a health communication intervention for Latinas.

Feasibility and acceptability of a mobile messaging program within a church-based healthy living intervention for African Americans and Latinos.
Church-based programs can act on multiple levels to improve dietary and physical activity behaviors among African Americans and Latinos. However, the effectiveness of these interventions may be limited due to challenges in reaching all congregants or influencing behavior outside of the church setting. This study examined the feasibility and acceptability of a mobile messaging program within a church-based healthy living intervention for African Americans and Latinos.

Cross-sector collaboration in the high-poverty setting: qualitative results from a community-based diabetes intervention.
The purpose of this study was to characterize the motivations of stakeholders from diverse sectors who engaged in cross-sector collaboration with an academic medical center. The investigators identified several factors that motivated collaboration across diverse sectors with health care systems to promote health in a high-poverty, urban setting.

How people with serious mental illness use smartphones, mobile apps, and social media.
The researchers surveyed individuals with serious mental illness to explore their use of mobile devices or whether they access social media. Among respondents (n = 70), 93 percent owned cellphones, 78 percent used text messaging, 50 percent owned smartphones, and 71 percent used social media such as Facebook. Most respondents reported daily use of text messaging, mobile apps, and social media.

Outreach for annual colorectal cancer screening: a budget impact analysis for community health centers.
This budget impact analysis investigated benefits and costs of fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) outreach-with FIT kits mailed to patients, followed by reminders and phone calls-compared with point-of-care (POC) strategies. Cost per patient screened was $20.60 for POC and $71.84 for outreach ($51.24 difference). Outreach costs decreased by approximately one fourth under optimized workflows.

Health promotion text messaging preferences and acceptability among the medically underserved.
Preimplementation focus groups with participants informed the development of text messages that were used in a 6-week pilot program. Postimplementation focus groups and interviews then evaluated the pilot program. The results of the pilot study indicates support among participants for health promotion text messaging embedded into an existing community-based cardiovascular disease risk reduction program.

Impact of passive and active promotional strategies on patient acceptance of medication therapy management services.
The researchers assessed the impact of passive and active promotional strategies on patient acceptance of medication therapy management (MTM) services, and identified reasons for patient acceptance or refusal. No significant differences were identified among the four promotional methods or between active and passive methods in the analyses. Patients' most frequent reasons for accepting MTM services were potential cost savings and review of how the medications were working.
