Digital technology to address HIV and other sexually transmitted infection disparities: intentions to disclose online personal health records to sex partners among students at a historically Black college.
Among an online survey sample of co-ed students, the authors described latent constructs and other variables associated with perceived behavioral intentions to disclose sexually transmitted infection (STI) test history using patient portals. They found that latent constructs representing communication valuation beliefs and practices were not associated with intentions, while self-reporting prior STI diagnosis was associated with intentions to disclose. They concluded that point-of-care messages focused on improvements to validating test results, communication, and empowerment, may be an effective strategy to support the adoption of patient portals for STI prevention among populations of college-aged Black youth.

The role of service readiness and health care facility factors in attrition from Option B+ in Haiti: a joint examination of electronic medical records and service provision assessment survey data.
Option B+ is a strategy wherein pregnant or breastfeeding women with HIV are enrolled in lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART) for prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV. This study explored service readiness and other facility factors as predictors of Option B+ attrition in Haiti. The study found that several facility-level factors were associated with Option B+ attrition.

Sociotechnical analysis of health information exchange consent processes in an HIV clinic.
The purpose of this study was to describe sociotechnical factors that influence health information exchange (HIE) consent for persons living with HIV (PLWH) at one clinic in New York City. The authors' approach revealed multiple interruptions in clinical workflow, staff and providers' time constraints, and lack of dedicated personnel focused on HIE consent as the major barriers to HIE consent, and they recommended having a dedicated person for facilitating HIE consent.

Half of 30-day hospital readmissions among HIV-infected patients are potentially preventable.
The researchers assessed whether readmissions among HIV-infected patients were potentially preventable using both published criteria and detailed chart review, how readmissions might have been prevented, and the phase of care deemed suboptimal (inpatient care, discharge planning, post-discharge). They found that among 130 individuals experiencing 30-day readmissions, about half were determined to be potentially preventable using published criteria (53 percent) or implicit chart review (48 percent).
