Inpatient rehabilitation centers and concern for increasing volume of ischemic stroke patients requiring rehabilitation.
The researchers aimed to quantify the proportion of medically stable ischemic stroke patients with prolonged length of stay (pLOS) caused by a lack of IRF bed availability. They concluded that for the majority of our patients, pLOS was caused by acquired medical complications and delayed disposition, most commonly inpatient rehabilitation.

Outcomes among patients discharged from busy intensive care units.
This study of 155 U.S. intensive care units (ICUs) found that when their capacities are strained, triage decisions seem to be affected such that patients are discharged from the ICU more quickly, and have slightly greater odds of being readmitted to the ICU. However, short-term patient outcomes are unaffected.

Factors associated with short-term bounce-back admissions after emergency department discharge.
The researchers describe the prevalence, characteristics, and predictors of 7-day bounce-back admissions after ED discharge in a cohort of California hospitals. They found that older white men and patients with a disposition of eloped or having left against medical advice especially at risk for a bounce-back admission. They also found that use of Medicaid or Medicare was associated with higher rates of bounce-back admission.

Variation in prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus among hospital discharges for obstetric delivery across 23 states in the United States.
The authors examined variability in diagnosed gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) prevalence at delivery by race/ethnicity and state. Their results suggest that GDM rates differ by state, with this variation attributable to differences in obesity at the population level, age, race/ethnicity, hospital, and insurance.
